And thanks for subscribing! I think the origin of the word is that it's like an anti 'Magazine' - where it's all glossy and perfect, much like its predominantly fashion-oriented content. They were traditionally hand-written/drawn and made using colour paper and photocopiers - usually to publicise niche topics that you wouldn't find in mainstream sources (I have zines about health and whole foods from the 60's, medical uses of cannabis, female orgasms etc.).
Although now, anything that's created independently by artists and makers count as a zine, even if it's digital, and even if the content isn't controversial.
Fun. I thought as much, althoug I actually thiought it was just short for magazine as in periodical. I really feel like I should make one. Like back in school. I love the feel of hand made things.
Yes, when I was a kid I used to a make 'newspapers' for my parents. They were away regularly, so I would document the stuff I did while they were away and give them a 'periodical'.
Check out this vid - for a really straightforward way of creating a small one.
This was very cool, thanks for sharing! Soon enough you'll be able to do the "I made a zine" presentation :) What you posted from Dines connected most. Solve a problem.
That zine is awesome. But I have to figure out the exact definition of zine.
Great post.

Thank you, I'm delighted you enjoyed my talk 🙏
“Indeed, there is nothing reasonable, or comfortable about creativity, and the only time for it is now.”
This was great!

Yes, I always find myself dancing between two seemingly contradictory mindsets:
- 'Creativity offers value - it's necessary for problem-solving'.
- 'Creativity is of its own value'.
Of course both are true, whenever you want it to be. But it's good to pick settle in one house or the other, depending on the nature of one's 'block'.
