In group situations, he tends to butt heads with the other members often- this happened with Springfield as well as when he was with Crosby, Stills and Nash. Crazy Horse is different because he is clearly the boss there.
To start with, there's his "Greatest Hits" CD and the 2CD anthology "Decade", which deals with his 1969-1979 catalogue. From there you can pick what albums you want to get into; it's hard doing trying to do all of them since his discography is a mile long.
He has written two volumes of autobiography and has been the subject of numerous biographies and critical studies. I would suggest you go to your local library's online catalogue, type in "Young, Neil", see what they have and go from there.
Oh I'm familiar with his discography! I meant more things that went into his more personal/professional life and relationships with other musicians. And yes, there are millions of biographies when I googled it, so I was hoping you could give me a personal recommendation to narrow it down a bit?
Raphy I am so honoured to be featured in Three Things Weekly. Thanks for your kind words. 🧡
One of these days – in the spirit of Music Monday – we ought to get a cup of tea together and talk about nothing but music. I want to hear more about your charity shop deep dives and Peugeot 406 tape marathons...!
P.s. I will now make my dinner to the sound of Buffalo Springfield – awesome recommendation
You’re very welcome and thank you for letting me share! Yes, I’d love a music chat over tea! There may even be scope for a Co-Create x Ordinary collab. Music Monday Instagram lives? Podcast?
Mary’s designs are stunning (and the playlist ain’t half bad either!) pleased to have discovered Three Things Weekly, sorry for the late arrival!
Hi Nathaniel! Welcome! And I’m glad you enjoyed Mary’s pieces - she’s so cool 😎. I’m glad you found Three Things Weekly too!
That was a great read in dive into your past, design and music. thank you for sharing!
Thank you for taking the time Susanne, and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Buffalo Springfield was fabulous. I wish they could have lasted longer, but Neil Young being who he was and is...
Interesting - I don’t know a great deal about Neil Young’s personal life. I enjoy his music thoroughly and amazed at how prolific he is.

How interesting! I must look into this a bit further. Do you have any recommendations for videos/documentaries/books?

Retrospective: The Best of Buffalo Springfield
one of my favourite LP's of all time
bought it in 1970
I'm jealous - I think you lived through one of the best times in music, art, design and fashion!
Thank you for this lovely post, Raphy. Last Thursday, I was at SFMoMA and they had this exhibit called The Art of Noise featuring floor-to-ceiling album covers. So inspiring!! I thought of you after I read this.
