Ordinary — a zine publication by Mary O’Neil and Ella Glover
From the Community
It’s the first weekend of June, and it feels like summer. The cherry blossoms are no longer in bloom, and we have a short wait for the cherry fruits to appear like scarlet jewels against their green leafy beds. This doesn’t last long either, because the birds come and eat the cherries as soon as they’re sighted from many metres away.
I find myself thinking: “Is that it? Is the long-awaited Spring over?”… I guess it is.
So remembering Mary and Ella’s ‘Ordinary Zine’ was a perfect throwback to only a few weeks ago, when everywhere were tiny pink and white flowers, chirping bird songs, and endless deliberation about whether or not to wear a jacket.
I particularly enjoyed the list of affirmations and Mary’s poem (👆🏼), capturing the ‘moment-ness’ of an ordinary moment - insignificant but entirely full of the human experience.
You can download the Zine through the website on the button below. It’s free to download a digital copy, or a small fee for a printed one :).
AND… here is Ordinary Zine’s Spring playlist, which I think works just as well for early summer. Enjoy!

Running — song and music video by Abi Ocia
From the Substack World
Thank you to
for sharing this song a couple of weeks ago (👇🏽).I can’t really put my finger on what makes this song so compelling, but I found myself stopping whatever I was doing to simply listen. A bit like how I find myself stopping in my stride to look at a dove perching on a low-hanging tree branch. Or how I might take a deep breath as I sit on a bench, feeling relief from the shade against the midday sun.
I love getting
recommendations regularly in my inbox. It’s always something I would never have discovered by myself.3.
On ordinary people — a quote from Zhang Yiming
From the Internet
For people who achieve great things, they often maintain a very ordinary mentality. In other words, if you keep an ordinary mind, accept yourself as you are, and do well for yourself, you can often do things well. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

🌹 EVERYDAY MAGIC 🌹
Speaking of ordinary moments… I love following

Thanks for sharing the everyday magic - and your lovely flowers too! ✨ Spring is still springing in Shetland so I'm taking as many photos of the blossom as I can before it finally fades. 🌸
Spring did seem to pass by rather fast. I’m excited to check out the zine (I love zines so much) and the music recommendations!
