Entropy Interrupted — comic haikus by Jason McBride
From the Community
I ‘met’
here in the Substack community, although I don’t quite remember exactly how. On a side note - this is a key element of Substack that I think makes it a winner above any other platform. Somehow, it fosters camaraderie between writers and creators from across the planet that feels very ‘in real life.’ Perhaps it’s the absence of algorithms. In many ways, I feel much more connected to writers like Jason than I do to people I actually know on my Instagram feed. I mean, they look nothing like their selfies… you know? No?Anyway, Jason produces these haiku comics prolifically, and I’m so grateful to receive them in my inbox every day. In no more than 17 syllables, he encapsulates and expresses a facet of the human experience and it always - always resonates with me. Having the daily company of these haikus makes me feel like I have fellow journeyers somewhere, wondering the same things and wanting to create and connect.
Do click on to the posts through the images - his reflections and sharing to accompany the post are always worth a read as well.
AND… Jason has published his latest book! 👇🏽
I’m a sucker for books, so I’ve purchased my paper copy 📚. Expect more on this topic!

Fulcrum — a short animation Timothy David Orme
From the Library
I’m not compelled to say much more about this animation, other than an invitation to simply watch, stay present and ‘rest’ into what’s being offered. I would love to hear about your experience of these 8 minutes 😌.

On Intentionality — a quote from John Steinbeck
From the Internet
Jason’s haiku comic ‘Entropy Interrupted’ had me think about intentionality. It’s not a given that from the goo inside a chrysalis, the butterfly will emerge. There are so many things that conspire against this possibility - the weather, natural predators… and the caterpillar having enough energy to re-direct itself from rapidly increasing entropy, to an organised shape of a butterfly.
And even after that… there are no guarantees!
And yet you and I are here 🎈.
“Life is like an empty field. With intention it becomes a garden, without it weeds and debris will take over. Something will grow either way, but it’s your choice what takes root.”
— John Steinbeck
It reminded me of this quote I came across a few years ago now - enjoy 🌾.
LESSON TIME
If you’re part-time interested in what entropy actually is…
Lovely post. Learned something from that TED ed video and have subscribed to Weirdo Poetry.
Thanks for sharing!
I am really enjoying your "3 things". It is always a nice surprise and a collection of new ideas. Comic Haikus, someone finally figured out how to get non haiku appreciaters to enjoy them. I guess I need the visual.
Thank you for encouraging me to stop and watch all of "Fulcrum". I wouldn't have normally and I would have missed out. It is very well done.
