Treat Your Triggers Like Wine Tasting — comedy videos by Georgia Pownall
From the Community
Lol. LOL. 😂 🤣.
Look. Ok. Listen. These are hilarious. Fact.
I look at comedians with awe and wonder. As a creative practice, it’s just so marvelous. See, I think I make people laugh - a lot. But usually, it’s because I’m ungainly, awkward, and a bit absurd - not because I have wit and comedic talent.
I’m particularly tickled by Georgia’s sketches because she captures the core essence of human beings’ paradox and ridiculousness. In this Substack, I talk a lot about self-expression and by extension self-development - and I believe in what I’m talking about. AND I so deeply appreciate being reminded to not take myself too seriously.
On one level, our creative practice, self-expression, and wellbeing are important. On another - who cares? We are but one tiny dot between the earth and the cosmos. 🙄
But also… We are one tiny dot between the earth and the cosmos. 🙀

From You (fear. Joji) — a music video by Bonobo
From the Internet
Speaking of the earth and the cosmos… I share with you this music video which I found totally mesmerizing.
It’s simple but immaculate. I don’t really understand how something so ‘basic’ can make me feel the way that I did when I watched this but here we are.

On productivity — a quote from Andrew Wilkinson
From the Internet
“Most successful people are just a walking anxiety disorder harnessed for productivity.”
— Andrew Wilkinson
Possibly the most controversial thing I’ve ever put in this newsletter.
But hey, remember not to take yourself too seriously… 😉

That Bonobo video was very soothing!
I think there is definitely some link between some level of anxiety and hyper-productivity--that used to be me. Then one day my coping mechanisms all broke and my anxiety overwhelmed me. I became almost catatonic for a period. I've had to relearn how to separate value as a human from what I accomplish in a given day. It's something I'm still working on.
Yes to that quote! Here’s something I read this week that is in line with that.
"..unlike other negative emotions, anxiety is quite compatible with being a productive member of society. Sad people don’t show up for work, and we can’t have that. Angry people break things, and we can’t have that. But anxious people might work harder."
