15 Lessons on Creativity and Life from The Beatles — a blog from The Rubesletter
From the Internet
If you have some time, I would recommend reading the full article. I find it well-written, funny and includes some videos of The Beatles that are worth watching.
I have also taken the liberty to summarise the key headings below for you.
The creative process is tedious and boring
Pay more attention to the quiet ones
The good and bad parts of a person often come from the same place
If someone’s on drugs, then their story is about drugs
You have to go through cauliflower to find your ‘no other lover’
You can’t expect past people to have today’s values
Camera’s change everything
Deadlines and constraints are the secret ingredients to creativity
Ask yourself: Am I acting like a character in a future mockumentary?
Authenticity is often fakery in disguise
If you don’t like the vibe in a room, add someone new
Good production is often about the things you omit
Men blame things on women for no good reason
“Yes” leads to all kinds of good things
Collaboration is all about negotiation and compromise

Consuming vs. Creating — an idea from Mike Donghia
From the Internet
Consuming is expensive, but creating is free. Create more than you consume.
I picked this up from an article by Mike Donghia with Rowdy Kittens, that I listened to on Optimal Living Daily - one of my favourite podcasts where Justin Malik narrates 6-8 minute blogs and articles from all over the internet, for you.
You can listen to the episode here:
I’m also certain I heard this idea in other places, and it stands true for me. When I create more than I consume, my consumption of content fuels my creative endeavours. When I consume more than I create, my brain gets overloaded and I’m not very productive.
