Dirt - a poem by Raphy Mendoza
From the Community
Dirt Human. Humour. Hummus (not the falafel kind).* Humility. Humiliate. ‘Hum’ is means ‘ground’. You, human, are nothing more than dirt. Nothing more than the soil that’s home To worms and ants and maggots. Nothing more than the brickwork For hovel dwellings for rodents and bumble bees. Nothing more than the land From which carrots and potatoes grow. Where dead bodies lay to rest And treasures from ancient worlds Hold the spirit of the past. Nothing more than the fleeting sands Pounded by the crashing waves of millennia. You are nothing more than dirt, And nothing less. You are nothing and everything. - Raphy Mendoza --- *Hummus - the organic component of soil, formed by the decomposition of leaves and other plant material by soil microorganisms. *99% of the human body is made up of the same six elements that you would find in compost: - Hydrogen: 62.9% - Oxygen: almost 24% - Carbon: 12% - Nitrogen: 0.6% - Calcium: 0.24% - Phosphorus: 0.14%

“When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.”
So remember: your KPIs work for you - not the other way around!
OTHER THINGS
I published a long-form article last week: ‘5 Cornerstones of My Creative Practice’. I didn’t land it in your inbox - I know once a week may well be enough! Take a look, and I hope it will have some value to you.
Substack has released an app available on iOS. If you would like to read Three Things Weekly along with your other Substack newsletters, then you may want to take a look at the app.
I really like the app myself. It’s like Medium, but you curate it yourself and it’s free.
